Carlton Riverside Restaurant is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Wales. The AA gave Carlton their award as Wales Restaurant of the Year 2007 / 2008 and Carlton has held 3 AA Rosettes for many years. We have a 6 in the Good Food Guide and we feature in Hardens Restaurant Guide, Michelin, Time Out, the Guardian Best B&B Guide, the Good Hotel Guide and many other publications. At the National Restaurant Awards 2009, held in London in October, we were very pleased to see Carlton Riverside named as one of the Top 100 UK restaurants.
There are two lounges furnished with large squishy sofas and modern glass coffee tables where you can relax, play board games if it rains, and enjoy a drink from our comprehensively stocked bar. Here you can peruse the menu or read a cookery book, hundreds of which feature hugely on our bookshelves, before moving on to the Restaurant itself which overlooks the River Irfon and is decorated in a contemporary style. The restaurant features polished wood tables, lovely Welsh slate table mats, generous linen napkins and a large picture window which affords a lovely view of the river and the old stone bridge, beyond which lies the town green.
THE MENU
The chef, Mary Ann Gilchrist, is very passionate about the use of local produce and sources as many of her ingredients as possible from local farmers and growers.
A substantial element of the produce is now organically grown and we only buy our meat from Welsh farms. Our fish and shellfish come from Pwhelli and we only source fish caught by sustainable methods.
Don’t expect tricky foams, emulsions or spumas, but do expect high quality ingredients cooked with care and flair by a chef with passion.

THE WINE LIST
Alan Gilchrist is extremely knowledgeable about wines and has put together a comprehensive list of wines from all corners of the globe to compliment Mary Ann’s cooking.
The list also features a good range of half bottles (more than 20) if you wish to drink a different wine with each course at dinner, and an unusually large and interesting selection of dessert wines to compliment Mary Ann’s puddings, or one or two of our quite excellent Welsh cheeses.
We offer around 80 carefully selected bins from all parts of the world.
